TELPAM 2000
Telecontrol and supervision system for energy distribution networks
Fully modular and flexible I/O structure. Possibility for expansion and rearrangement.
Today’s industrial, service and administrative technologies and even our private lives are all based on the continuous flow of energy (originating from electricity, oil, gas, water or anything else). Providing unfailing and high quality service can prove to be an engineering challenge for provider companies. Not only the supply points and the main distribution networks have to be supported, but companies have to oversee and control secondary distribution systems as well. When an error occurs, it has to be detected swiftly, its effect kept to the smallest possible area and the quickest possible solution for it has to be provided.
A reliable system can be formed by concentrating network topology, or by increasing the number of measurement and interface points (such as switches, valves, magnetic latches). Concentrating topology means fewer consumers per distributor, which means less consumers are affected in case of an error.
The TELPAM 2000 control equipment is designed to operate such instruments. It is a mixture of a telecontrol instrument and a communication module. It can provide remote access to interface units or readouts of switching devices, such as current flow, amount of energy, etc..
Malfunction repair commands can be issued automatically or manually form the HQ.
The TELPAM 2000 uses radio or telephone communication to notify the dispatcher centre of the operating company about the state of the overseen network. Avoiding errors and repairing malfunctions becomes possible even for networks, relay stations or suction pump stations that are hard to reach geographically

Inputs
Digital
Up to 24 status indicators can be monitored. It can show the ON/OFF or Open/Closed state of a given unit, in addition to indicating whether it is under manual or remote control, the status of the secondary battery, of the control computer, communication problems, etc.
Analogue measurements
Using a transmitter is not necessary when the system is applied to electricity, the current and voltage signals of the three-phase power grid can be connected directly. The device measures 3 phase currents, 3 phase voltages, can calculate Io and Uo, phase angle, frequency, active and reactive power, active and reactive energy. Instead of measuring energy, the unit is specifically designed to detect short circuits on 3 different I and Io values. The threshold and duration of the short circuit is adjustable.
8 analogue channels can be added with the addition of an auxiliary measurement unit. The device can be equipped with several such units. These can be connected to any transmitter signals, thus it is possible to detect if the transported material is over a certain threshold, e.g. I>, U>, p>, °C>, etc..
Output
The device has 8 control outputs. These are capable of delivering basic commands such as ON/OFF, Open/Close, but also more advanced ones such as setting up and synchronising the real-time clock that is necessary for recording events, and enabling or disabling certain automatic functions. The best example of the latter one is the industry standard reclosing system or the “interval switch” function. Because it is using an 8 variable function, the device can replace certain functions of PLC-like, stored logic automatisation.
Communication
Both wired and wireless transmission is possible. The option usually applied is radio transmission based on the IEC 870-5 standard protocol. Because of the peculiar way radio waves propagate, a special store-forward function is required as well. This means that the TELPAM 2000 might not be directly connected to the centre, but through one or several other TELPAM 2000 devices. The store-forward function enables optimal and highly secure automatic tracking, which means that when an access path is unavailable or at fault, the system can establish connection through its own subsystems.
If a TELPAM 2000 is using the store-forward function, it does not examine the content of the message, it only determines the need for transmission based on the address. The store-forward function can be activated or shut down via parametrisation.
